    Teacher shortage to have negative effect on standards

    A record number of teachers quit the profession during the 2013-2014 academic year, with the high figure posing a threat to teaching standards in the UK. Yahoo! News reports that 50,000 teachers left during this period, with the number of applications for teaching courses also dropping by a large amount (21,000).

    Religious supplementary schools to be inspected

    The Prime Minister David Cameron has announced that religious supplementary schools in England that preach intolerance to students will be investigated, the BBC reports. In a speech made to the Conservative Party Conference, Cameron said that the schools will be investigated, regulated and potentially closed down should they be found to "incubate divisions" within society.
