At the recent Learning Technologies conference Peter Casebow gave his top 5 tips to bear in mind when devising internal learning tools for managers.
The recommendations are based on research available here.
- Review your existing online learning initiatives – how easy is your tech to access vs how far are you blocking access with data collection?
- Conduct online user testing of learning tech – evaluate standard usage and see where users struggle (Nielsen recommends testing with 5 users)
- Assess your knowledge and skills relating to digital tech – ask others and seek support
- Survey your learners on their experiences and opinions on organizational digital tools – seek external input
- Build an engagement plan – what is going to drive usage? Think about what’s in it for the user.
When in doubt, Casebow recommends looking to commercial sites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and learning from their engagement models.
