We certainly live in uncertain times. You’ll hardly need reminding what that means for your business. From pandemics to cyber security threats and carbon reduction targets, the challenges come thick and fast. And more often than not, they touch on every corner of your organisation.
You could call in an external consultant, but at what cost?
That’s where Solution Packs from BSI come in, the tools that put the power in your hands to start managing complex challenges in-house.
What is a Solution Pack?
Solution Packs offer a bundle of standards, guidelines, expert commentary, and more, that combine to help you to get a job done. There are two different types of Solution Packs:
Management Solution Packs
Management Solution Packs are aimed at helping decision makers solve complex challenges. For example, protecting organisations from a disruptive threat such as COVID-19, or implementing a system to deliver cybersecurity.
Management Solution Packs typically contain:
- A document setting out what is in the pack
- A written guide setting out how the standards can be used to help you address your challenge
- A set of around 3-5 relevant standards
- Contextual content such as checklists, booklets, whitepapers and infographics that explain why the standard is important
- A video with expert advice tailored specifically to the pack and how all the assets relate to your challenge
- A list of other standards that may be useful
Technical Solution Packs
Technical Solution Packs are focused on helping to implement or apply a specific standard to a certain challenge. For example, installing an emergency lighting system or a fire detection and alarm system.
Technical Solution Packs typically contain:
- A document setting out what is in the pack
- One standard (the main standard relevant to the challenge in question)
- Expert commentary or a similar document to help you apply that standard to a technical challenge
- A video with expert advice, designed to help you apply or implement the standard to meet your technical challenge
- In some cases, a book or similar publication to provide more advice on addressing your technical challenge
The pricing for Solution Packs varies, but it always represents good value compared to developing a bespoke solution from scratch or employing a consultant.
How do Solutions Packs provide good value?
Solutions Packs provide comprehensive guidance to help with complex challenges, allowing you to find a solution that works for your organisation. Solution Packs are particularly useful for areas that would be too much for one person to research and implement solutions.
Rather than paying a consultant or adopting someone else’s system to address a challenge, Solutions Packs empower you to find your own way forward, for much less than the cost of external assistance. You can proceed at your own pace, gaining a deeper understanding of the issue and benefitting from expert guidance provided by the videos contained in the packs.
The first Solution Packs
Let’s look at some of the Solutions Packs:
The Cybersecurity Management Solution Pack
Cybersecurity is a pressing issue whatever the size of your business. But too many SMEs aren’t prepared for a cybersecurity or data breach incident.
But how do you best mitigate the risk of such criminal activity and to ensure organizational compliance with data protection regulations?
The Cybersecurity Solution Pack includes the standards and supplementary content required for businesses to significantly improve the security of their data and information. It provides your organization with all the necessary best practice guidance to support you through the implementation of an effective and flexible Information Management System. This system will enable you to continually review and refine the way you protect your information assets,. Not only for today, but also for the future.
The Net Zero Solution Pack
It can be difficult to know where to begin on the pathway to net zero, whilst managing your day-to-day challenges of running your organization. If you have fewer employees and resources there'll naturally be less in-house sustainability expertise to tackle your carbon footprint. That’s where this Solution Pack can help.
This Solution Pack provides a comprehensive framework through which small and medium-sized enterprises can get started in reducing their carbon emissions to reach the target of net zero within their organization.
With the Net Zero Solution Pack, you'll have all the necessary specifications, guidelines, and expert advice on how to use the standards included to get started on your pathway to net zero.
The Business Continuity Management Solution Pack
As the pandemic has shown all too clearly, securing your business against disruption can be of critical importance in the face of adverse circumstances. This pack is designed to give a cohesive solution to managing disruptive threats of all types.
This Solution Pack contains the following standards:
- BS EN ISO 22301: 2019
- BS EN ISO 22313:2020
- BS EN ISO 22313: 2020 Expert Commentary
- PD ISO/TS 22330: 2018
There is also a written checklist to help in measuring progress in implementing BS EN ISO 22301: 2019 and a written guide to assist in understanding how the standard should be used. An overview takes the reader through different aspects of the topic and Whitepapers offer both wider context and a depth of detail.
Finally, a video provides insight from an expert to help users get the most from the Solution Pack.
The BS 5266-1 Emergency Lighting Technical Solution Pack
This Technical Solution Pack helps users to implement or apply the standard BS 5266-1 Emergency Lighting - Code of practice for the emergency lighting of premises. The standards BS 5266-1:2016 and BS 5266-1 (expert commentary) are included in the pack.
An overview document explains what is in the pack and contains links to a video in which an expert explains how to implement the standard.
For more detailed assistance, this Solution Pack also contains the book ‘A guide to emergency lighting’ by Chris Watts and Ian Watts.
