man and woman shaking handsIf you’re reading this, chances are you’ve just become a BSI Member, so welcome.

No doubt you’ll now want to get up to speed quickly and get every bit of value from your new BSI Membership. From 50% discounts to access to standards experts, here are our top tips for making the most of your first year. And subsequent years too, of course.

1. Tap into expert knowledge

Now you’re a BSI Member, you have exclusive access to our Knowledge Centre’s information experts. If you have a question on standards, you can simply contact our team of professional researchers who will respond rapidly and efficiently when you get in touch – usually within less than a day. They can help you do all this and more:

  • Find out if there’s a standard for a particular topic
  • Track down a standard elsewhere in the world
  • Know exactly what a standard includes and whether it’s relevant to your needs
  • Identify any changes to standards
  • Discover any relevant withdrawn standards
  • View a standard before you buy it in our Members’ Reading Room, in person or virtually

Watch this short video to meet the people who’ll be helping you.

2. Access the BSI Member Portal

Now you’re a BSI member, you’ve probably already logged in to the Member Portal and read the latest articles and exclusive news. But as well as being your new go-to source for the latest standards developments and their implications, the Member Portal can help you:

3. Stay in the know with standards updates monthly

As a BSI Member, you’ll be one step ahead, thanks to the monthly Update Standards magazine about changes to standards. You can access the most recent edition, or an archive of previous editions, via the exclusive Membership Portal.

Every month we cover:

  • New and revised British Standards (BS) that were made available in the last month
  • Standards under review
  • Published documents (PDs)
  • British standards withdrawn
  • Drafts of standards available for comment
  • New standards work started
  • British Standard implementations of the English language versions of European Standards (ENs)
  • BS implementations of ISO or IEC standards

Download the current edition or browse through the last twelve years’ worth of Update Standards magazines in our archive – available exclusively to BSI Members.

If monthly news isn’t enough, take a look at our Members’ LinkedIn network, where you’ll receive extra daily updates and relevant standards news to help keep you ahead of industry trends.

4. Use your voting rights

And don’t forget, as a BSI member your organisation is entitled to a single vote at our Annual General Meeting. Keep an eye out for emails about the AGM and how your business can have its say.

You can see recordings of previous AGMs on the Membership Portal here.

5. Get revised or replaced standards delivered automatically

Now you’re a member, you can use our Private List Updating Service (PLUS) to receive the latest print edition of a standard when it’s revised or replaced. All you need to do is submit the list of national and international standards that you want tracked.

Click here to learn more about PLUS and how to submit the standards you want to track.

6. Buy now, pay later

As a member, you can now buy standards and other items from the BSI Shop without having to pay up front. Once you’ve registered and activated your £2,000 online credit, you can authorise your colleagues to start downloading standards from the BSI Shop straight away.
