BS ISO 21448:2022 Road vehicles. Safety of the intended functionality

As road vehicles become more automated, new safety considerations apply. Reflecting this, we’ve now published a new safety standard: BS ISO 21448:2022 Road vehicles — Safety of the intended functionality (SOTIF). This document is specifically concerned with guaranteeing the safety of intended functionality in the absence of faults. This standard is also set to be cited in UNECE WP29 regulations, so will be a way to achieve vehicle type approval.

BS 5606 Accuracy and tolerance in design and construction – Guide

BS 5606 is a standard for anyone looking for help with tolerances in construction, including old and new data it provides a comprehensive source of guidance on tolerances. The standard has been fully revised to incorporate both traditional and modern methods of construction, ensuring it’s highly relevant to today’s industry.

BS 8536:2022 Design, manufacture and construction for operability - Code of practice

BS 8536 gives expert recommendations on design, manufacture and construction to improve how the asset performs in use over the whole course of its planned operational life. This standard can help you to deliver and operate an asset more efficiently, safely and securely, and to deliver on environmental, social and economic targets more effectively.

Mechanical and engineering designers can find a new approach to tolerancing

Engineering designers should now use BS EN ISO 22081:2021 Geometrical product specifications (GPS) — Geometrical tolerancing — General geometrical specifications and general size specifications. It will mainly be used in the aerospace, defence, automotive, rail, nuclear and medical devices sectors, and also by any engineering or manufacturing organization that needs to produce engineering drawings (using 2D manual drawings or 3D CAD-generated models) in their product design and development processes.
