hardhat guys at computerDo you need information on standards, but don’t have the time or resources to search for it? No problem, just put our Knowledge Centre team to work for you.

Whether it’s finding standards to support innovation, or identifying exactly what’s inside a particular standard, or maybe you need guidance in a new area, we can help members get an answer.

The BSI Knowledge Centre offers members expert help in finding and accessing British and international standards, even if it means navigating complex topics and subjects (and with standards, there is no shortage of those).

Seven ways the Knowledge Centre can help

1 Find the right standard for a particular need
If you want to scope out an area to see which standards apply, the Knowledge Centre can help.  A team member will:

  • Search for all relevant standards
  • Send you a list of the results

2 Carry out detailed searches inside a standard
If you need more detailed information about the content of a standard, a researcher from the Knowledge Centre can carry out a keyword search within the standard so you can decide if it meets your requirements. This service covers current and withdrawn British Standards, along with foreign and international standards.

3 Understand what a standard includes before you buy
It can be frustrating to buy a standard only to discover that you misunderstood what it covers. The Knowledge Centre team can provide you with an outline of what is included in a standard to ensure you access the right guidance.

4 Find out what changes mean to you
If you know a Standard has been updated but do not want to compare the documents to find the differences, you can ask researchers from the Knowledge Centre to direct you where the changes have been made..

5 Identify foreign standards
If you are planning to expand into a new market, you will need to know about standards that apply in that region. Knowledge Centre researchers can help you find and understand foreign standards.

6 Track down withdrawn standards
An old version of a current standard can be a useful reference point. Researchers can advise on which withdrawn standards applied to an area at a particular time in the past.

7 View a standard before you buy it
Members are entitled to visit our Members’ Reading Room at our head office in London, for unlimited time, to carry your own research and view as many standards as you need to support your decision making. You can also view standards remotely for a limit of two hours a month.

Next steps

Then, once you’ve got your answer, the good news is that the BSI online shop has recently been redesigned to make your life easier, with a new user-friendly layout and design.

How could the Knowledge Centre help your organization?

Why not do what dozens of BSI Members do every day. Contact the Knowledge Centre right away and find out why, as one member said, “In my opinion, this department is worth the BSI Membership fee alone.”
