Has the shift to homeworking seen you putting in longer hours with a bigger workload than before the Covid pandemic hit?
Well, you’re not alone, according to recent survey reports, an extra two hours of work every day is not unusual for many. The good news is that BSI Membership can lighten that load a little, as we explain.
Get rapid answers from a team of experts
BSI is not just a repository of standards. There’s plenty of know-how for members to call on too. The BSI Knowledge Centre has a team of professional researchers on hand to assist you in solving problems. For example, finding relevant standards from the UK or elsewhere around the world, providing information about historical standards, or explaining how a particular standard could apply to your situation.
Our team of professional researchers will respond rapidly and efficiently when you get in touch – usually within less than a day.
The Knowledge Centre is an invaluable tool, free for members to use, and just a click or call away.
Stay up-to-date with updates
Standards are updated on a regular basis in reaction to the changes that are taking place in society, technology and the economy.
If you use a wide range of standards, ensuring that you are always using the most up-to-date standard can be time consuming.
As a BSI Member, you’ll be one step ahead thanks to the monthly Update Standards magazine about changes to standards. You can access the most recent edition, or an archive of previous editions, via the exclusive Membership Portal. It’s a hassle-free way to know about standards under review, new standards work started, drafts available for comment and published standards.
The BSI Member Portal will also keep you up to date with useful insights into standards development, innovation and implementation. Recent content has included ‘Seven ways to drive your business to Net Zero by 2050’ and ‘How to implement a revised standard successfully’.
Getting your standards asap digitally
As a BSI Member, you are eligible for a 50% discount on British Standards Online (BSOL) database subscription products.
BSOL is a simple online tool that acts as your standards management system. Access, view and download standards with multiple user access, across multiple sites, facilitating the distribution of the knowledge across your business. No fuss, no delay.
You can subscribe to and download every standard that is relevant to your industry, at a significantly reduced rate. Choose our pre-built modules or build a personalized standards collection, saving your organization money, reducing risk by enabling access to the latest version of standards with bibliographical data and instilling trust with your clients partnering with BSI.
BSOL contains British standards and international and European standards that have been adopted as British standards. It also includes ISO, EN, PAS, ASTM and IEC standards that haven't been adopted as British standards.
So, you get immediate access to the right standard, with an invoice sent to you for later payment. This means you can get hold of the standard when and where you need it, without delay.
Another big PLUS: revised or replaced standards delivered automatically
If your preference is for a print-based system, the Private List Updating Service (PLUS) is another way to stay on top of standards updates. You submit a list of the standards you use regularly (national or international) and you’ll be provided with the most up-to-date editions of those standards, as soon as they are published. The service costs a small fee, but often pays for itself in the time you’ll save on research.
Become a standards influencer
If, when the world settles down a little more, and you do find yourself with the time, why not get even more involved with the world of standards? Like many of our BSI Members have done, you could look into developing a bespoke standard or PAS for your industry, consider joining a committee that develops standards or comment on draft standards in your areas of expertise.
We all need every second of every day, and that’s not likely to change in the ‘new normal’, but BSI membership can certainly win you some time when it comes to standards.
